Data Analysis in Systems Medicine: Let’s publish together
Systems medicine is an emerging interdisciplinary framework that aims to improve our understanding, prevention and treatment of complex diseases by integrating knowledge and data across multiple levels of biomedical organization. The call is open to students and postdocs and early carrer scientists and scientists, who have their own data that they would like to learn how to analyze and get the job done, and also to statistical bioinformaticians, who would like to learn about the OpenMultiMed.
The Training School, organized by the OpenMultiMed CA15120 (Open Multiscale Systems Medicine, COST Action CA15120) http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ca/CA15120, represents a unique opportunity to involve and train early-career researchers in multiscale systems medicine and to reduce the methodological and knowledge gaps between biomedical and computational scientists in this transdisciplinary field.
Topic: Realistic hands-on network data analysis in multiscale medicine / Network analysis on real data
Participants should bring their own data and their own laptops to work with.
Participants should ideally agree that joint work on the data should be mirrorred in publications i.e. drafting some joint manuscripts before the end of the TS.
We have back-up toy datasets in store for network analyses for those participants who have no data.
The participants are goign to be preferentially selected on the basisi of availability of data to be analyzed.

Each day: 8.30 AM – 6 PM

Trainees bring their own posters to introduce their work to other participants during the ice-breaker and get-together poster presentation sessions.
Trainees send small subsamples of their data for preliminary insight in order that we familiarize ourselves before hand.

Topics to be learned:
1. data organization for efficient network analyses, how to, worked examples, reorganize your data
2. R, python scripts, Pajek cookbook recipies, worked examples, select approapriate analysis
3. R, python scripts, data analysis and minin, Knime
4. solving hands-on issues, work, exploration, technicalities, theory why/why not in certain cases, work and drafting
5. work and drafting the findings based on the accomplished work
5. work and drafting; presenting your own results in a short session
i) The participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance.
ii) Written training material will be prepared and will contain time schedules, collection abstracts of posters, abstracts of invited lectures, hands-on lecture materials and instructions with links to necessary references,
iii) Lectures are going to be recorded,
iv) A list of open access material and computer tools wil lbe made available at the action’s webpage.
