Address: Computational Systems Biology group, University of Latvia, Jelgavas iela 1, LV1004, Riga, Latvia
Dr.sc.ing Egils Stalidzans initially studied automatics and control theory at Riga Technical University, Latvia where he defended in 2005 also his doctoral theses. His interest in biology came via bees and beekeeping where he observed the strength of a system (bee colony) built from thousands of units (bees).
Since 2006 Egils leads Biosystems group that is renamed to Computational Systems Biology group since 2014. Group main activities are around modelling aspects of systems biology approach applied to cellular metabolism and medicine related metabolism, signalling and pharmacokinetics related questions.
His career path led through the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies where he was a senior researcher (2006-2014) and professor (2014-2020) at the faculty of Information Technology. Egils works since 2014 at the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology at University of Latvia. Since 2016 he is director of the institute.
